Setting a Rotation Point in CFD-VIEW

In CFD-VIEW, a model rotates about its geometric center by default. For rotating complex models, this may not be very convenient. CFD-VIEW has a feature that allows you to set the rotation point at the center of any data object of your choice.

For example, in the combustor model shown in Figure 1, we would like to set the center of rotation about the center of the surface called "exit". To do this, in the object explorer, select the surface object called "exit", right click, and then click on "Rotate about exit". You can also set the rotation point from the Menu bar, by clicking on 'VIEW -> Rotate About selected'.

The center of rotation can be set on any CFD-VIEW data object such as volumes, surfaces, spray, trace, etc.

Performing a "Ctrl+G" operation to refit the model into the graphics window will reset the rotation point to the geometric center of the model.

User Defined Curve Probes in CFD-VIEW

CFD-VIEW allows the user to create curve probes from a file containing XYZ data. This feature gives the user flexibility of collecting data on any specified/desired curve in the computational domain. As an example of use, these "curved line" probes could be used to sample simulation data at the same locations that experimental data was collected.

CFD-VIEW: Save Smaller mdl Files

While working with CFD-VIEW, the user has the option of saving an mdl file. This file stores all the entities created in CFD-VIEW, from the point the DTF file (or other data file) was imported, to their current state at the time of saving. The user can thus reopen this file anytime later to resume work.

Using CFD-VIEW Scripting for Transient Simulations

With the Python scripting capabilities of CFD-VIEW, you can quickly and easily perform the repetitive tasks you encounter when post-processing transient simulations.

Plotter Operations with CFD-VIEW

The Plotter operator in CFD-VIEW supports signal processing for Time History data. A previous user tip – Digital Signal Processing using CFD-VIEW – shows how time history date can be made available and how to perform a PSD on a periodic signal. The aim of this new user tip is to list all options supported by the Plotter Operator.

Particle Tracing in CFD-VIEW

A Particle Trace or Streamline is the trajectory of a particle moving in a fluid. Being able to visualize/analyze this trajectory can be very helpful in understanding flow patterns and flow distribution.
