Import CHEMKIN General Chemical Reaction Files Using CFD-ACE-GUI

The Database Manager of CFD-ACE-GUI allows the user to Import CHEMKIN-III (Sandia Format) general chemical reaction files. Importing Chemkin files is an optional feature and requires a CHEMKIN-TRANS license. Contact your sales engineer to request a quote for this feature.

To import Chemkin files, the user has to perform the following steps:

  1. Open the Database Manager from Tools -> Database.

  2. Open the Chemkin Manager from File -> Import Chemkin (see figure 1).

  3. Specify the User Chemkin Files: Gas Reaction and/or Surface Reaction and/or Thermodynamic and/or Transport (see figure 2).

  4. Click on the Process Chemkin files button as shown in figure 2.

Once these files have been imported, all data will appear in the local section of each database (Species, Volume Reactions, Surface Reactions). The volume reaction imported from a Chemkin file is presented in figure 3 below.

Copy/Paste Settings Feature in CFD-ACE-GUI

As of V2009.0, CFD-ACE-GUI has the capability to copy/paste settings to similar entities or group of entities within a model, as well as across different models within the same CFD-ACE-GUI window. This can save on keystrokes when setting up your case. It is especially useful for cases where settings are repeated. Just enter the desired setting for the first entity, and simply copy and paste those settings to multiple entities at once.

The First User Subroutine is the Hardest

Many users are interested in using user subroutines to set special boundary conditions, do problem-specific post-processing, or try things that are not supported either by the GUI or the solver itself.

Unit menu options in CFD-ACE-GUI

Often, the data available to you is not in SI units, but in other units like CGS or English, or a combination of different units. Having different unit systems available in the set-up process is helpful since you do not have to convert the units yourself.

Using the Contact Model In Structural Simulations

While solving structural problems, in a large number of cases there are physical contacts between two solid components. Numerically it is difficult to handle this situation as the grid volume (on the fluid side) collapses to zero at the contact surfaces.
