Grouping of Geometry Surfaces in CFD-VisCART V2008.0

In CFD-VisCART V2008.0, a new Group/Ungroup capability has been added for geometry surfaces. Grouping is useful for collecting multiple geometries having the same meshing parameters and/or boundary conditions. With this new feature the user is able to perform routine operations like geometry combine, split, delete, detect critical features, etc. on objects that belong to a group.

The Group/Ungroup tool can be found under the Geometry explorer list, as shown in Figure 1.

Creating a Group:

To create a Group in CFD-VisCART, simply select the set of surfaces to be grouped and click the Group icon, as shown above in Figure 1.   Next, you will be prompted to specify a name for the group.  Once a name has been specified, select Ok and the group will be shown in the Identity Groups explorer, as shown in Figure 2.

In this example, there are four groups:  inlet, outlet, hot_walls, cold_walls.

When a group is selected, only entities that are in that group are displayed in the graphics area.  This is can be very helpful since you can do outline detection, critical feature detection, splitting, etc. on the entities in this group.

To delete a group, simply select the group in the Identity Groups window and hit the Delete key.  The group will be destroyed, but the surfaces in the group will still be in the Geometry explorer.

If you haven't already upgraded to the latest version, this is one of the many new features available in CFD-VisCART V2008.0.
