Importing Native CAD Files into CFD-GEOM V2008.0

In CFD-GEOM V2008.0, new CAD import options have been added to support native CAD file import into CFD-GEOM.  With these new import options, you no longer have to translate the file to SAT or IGES format.  CAD readers for the following formats are available:

  • Windows (32-bit and 64-bit)
    • Pro/E (*.prt,*.prt.*,*.xpr,*.asm,*.xas,*.asm.*)
    • CATIA V4 (*.model,*.dlv,*.exp)
    • CATIA V5 (*.CATpart,*.CATProduct)
    • Unigraphics (*.prt)
    • SolidWorks (*.sldprt, *.sldasm)
    • Parasolid (*.x_t, *.x_b, *.xmt_txt, *.xmt_bin)
    • Step (*.step, *.stp)
  • Linux (32-bit)
    • Pro/E (*.prt,*.prt.*,*.xpr,*.asm,*.xas,*.asm.*)
    • CATIA V4 (*.model,*.dlv,*.exp)
    • Step (*.step, *.stp)
    • Parasolid (*.x_t, *.x_b, *.xmt_txt, *.xmt_bin)
    • Unigraphics (*.prt)

*For the SolidWorks, Unigraphics, and Parasolid readers, a valid Parasolid license is required.  Also, the CAD readers are not currently supported for the 64-bit Linux platforms.

Figure 1 shows a model in Pro/E while Figure 2 shows the same model after importing the Pro/E file into CFD-GEOM.  The file read in clean to CFD-GEOM and is ready for meshing without any CAD cleanup.

Each of these CAD readers is licensed separately, but can easily be added to current licenses.  If you would like more information on the CAD readers or are interested in purchasing a reader, please contact the ESI CFD Support Team ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
