CFD-CADalyzer as a Grid Generation Tool for CFD-ACE+ Print E-mail
CFD-CADalyzer has been designed to work directly with the CAD model, avoiding the pitfalls associated with translation between different geometry representations. Simply open your 3D part or assembly, and you are ready to go. While CFD-CADalyzer can be used as a stand-alone package with it’s built in Flow, Heat Transfer, and Turbulence modeling capabilities, you should be aware that it may also be used as a grid generator for almost any CFD-ACE+ simulation.

CFD-CADalyzer is a high-powered engineering simulation tool developed specifically for design engineers. With CFD-CADalyzer, the model is built only once inside your MCAD system. You have the ability to predict performance and operating characteristics, and much more confidently commit to expensive physical prototyping and testing.

CFD-CADalyzer will work with any CAD package that provides a direct ACIS (Inventor, AutoCAD, etc.) or Parasolid (SolidWorks, Unigraphics, etc.) interface (a Pro/E solution is also in testing right now). CFD-CADalyzer can be used for geometry manipulation of imported parts from CAD packages and also for automated grid generation.
  • Geometry Manipulations:  The following four options are available.
    • Invert Model
    • Fill Internal Voids
    • Build Bounding Box
    • Split Model Along Symmetry Line
  • Grid Generation: CFD-CADalyzer automatically generates tetrahedral grids with an option for boundary layers. Just click one button and you can get a good quality tetrahedral volume grid with boundary layer for any complicated model.
The steps required to use CFD-CADalyzer as a grid generator for a CFD-ACE+ multiphysics simulation are easy:
  1. Import any supported CAD model, part, or assembly in CFD-CADalyzer
  2. Perform any geometry manipulations (invert, split, etc.) necessary
  3. Generate tetrahedral grids (just click one button)
  4. Save the grid system as a DTF file.
  5. Open the DTF file in CFD-ACE-GUI, and setup your case for CFD-ACE-SOLVER.
You can use CFD-CADalyzer as a pre-processor/grid generation tool for any CAD model. The DTF file generated by CFD-CADalyzer can be used for any CFD-ACE+ model or feature that supports tetrahedral grids. Consider the simple example of flow through sprinkler.
Step-1:  Open the CAD model in CFD-CADalyzer.

Step-2:  Invert the model to get the flow domain.

Step-3:  Grid Generation with boundary layer. (Just click one button)

Step-4:  Save the grid system as a DTF file.

Step 5:  Open the DTF file in CFD-ACE-GUI and setup the desired problem.

So, if you often work with complex CAD models and thought that you could not use CFD-CADalyzer because it was only for simple physics, think again!  You should be able to take advantage of CFD-CADalyzer’s advanced CAD manipulation and grid generation tools to speed up your modeling efforts by using it as the grid generator for almost any CFD-ACE+ simulation.  For more information on this product, please visit www.cadalyzer.com.  If you are interested in purchasing CFD-CADalyzer, please contact your sales representative or send mailto: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
