Manipulate Models within Microsoft Office Documents using OpenHSF Print E-mail
Reports can be made more informative and presentations made more dynamic by incorporating images of your models that can be manipulated within the Microsoft environment. CFD-CADalyzer allows you to save models in HSF format, which can then be incorporated in popular Microsoft programs including Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, and Word.  HSF enables you to rotate, pan, and zoom your model, view the animation of a transient run, change background color, and adjust drawing properties.

We will use the internal flow path of a Garden Sprinkler model to demonstrate the use of an HSF file.  Please Download the HSF plug-in from the link titled HOOPS 3D Stream Control before trying to manipulate the HSF file.

The model shown below can then be manipulated as follows:

The left mouse button is used to rotate the model.  The middle mouse button is used for zooming in and out of the model.  Clicking the right mouse button brings up additional options for panning, smooth or wireframe rendering, playing an animation and throwing a shadow of the model.  If you do not see the model, please click this link

The following steps show the procedure for saving a HSF file out of CADalyzer and embedding it in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  1. To save your CADalyzer model as an HSF format file, go to File Menu --> Save As -->HSF file.  In this example, the model is saved as sprinkler.hsf.

  1. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint.
  1. Under View/Toolbars select Control Toolbox.

  1. Select More Controls from the Control Toolbox and select the Hoops 3D Stream Control Class from the list.

  1. Left Click and drag an area on the slide in which you want to embed the HSF file.
  2. Right-Click in the above area and select the Hoops 3D Stream Control Class Object/Properties to open a dialog for specifying the HSF filename.
  3. Browse for sprinkler.hsf, select it, check the box for Embed, and click OK.
  4. Hit F5 on the keyboard to display the HSF file in the PowerPoint slideshow format.
  5. Saving the HSF file from CADalyzer also saves a HTML file of the same name (sprinkler.htm) automatically.  The HTML file can be opened in a web browser where the HSF file can be manipulated.  The html and hsf files can be found here - sprinkler.htm, sprinkler.hsf.  Right click on this link and select “Save Target As..” to download this file to your computer's hard drive.

Inverting Models in CFD-CADalyzer

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) requires the discretization of a geometry bounded by it's wetted surfaces. In CAD, the solid parts are created without the corresponding fluid volumes, i.e. negative space.

Automatic Report Generator in CFD-CADalyzer

The Report Generator in CFD-CADalyzer allows a user to generate and print a detailed report of the CFD simulation that has been set up and run.  The user can also customize the report to make it fit his/her needs and demands.

Blanking, Grouping and Selecting Entities in CFD-CADalyzer

When working with models in CFD-CADalyzer, especially the more complicated ones, Blanking, Grouping and Selection tools can considerably simplify model setup and visualization.
