CFD for the Automotive Industry

ESI Group provides engineering services and specialized modeling and design tools for selected areas of automotive engineering. We offer general multiphysics tools for solving the most challenging automotive problems. We also provide design analysis services and customized design tools development.

ESI Group uses and offers a complete interactive analysis package for automotive application, CFD-ACE+. For automotive needs, an adaptive cartesian grid technology has been added for automatic model building of the complex geometry of the underhood.

CFD-ACE+ has been widely used and validated for many automotive applications, and has many features and models such as:

  • Automatic gridding of complex dirty underhood geometries using adaptive Cartesian model, CFD-VisCART
  • Cavitation model available for injectors and pump
  • Radiation model for thermal management
  • Arbitrary and sliding interfaces for complex grid motion

Our engineers and software customers have been successfully using CFD-ACE+ for a wide range of automotive applications as seen from the results presented on this page. These applications include:

  • Underhood cooling
  • Oil Pumps
  • HVAC/Climate Control
  • External Aerodynamics
  • Intake/Exhaust Manifold
  • In-cylinder combustion
  • Catalytic Converters
  • Novel plasma ignition concepts

PAM-FLOW is used extensively for aero-acoustic applications such as sunroof and window buffetting.
